SOUTH BEND - There remains a rest for the people of God and Percy Lee Sanders, Jr. entered his heavenly rest on Friday, January 5 at about 8:30 am. Mr. Sanders was the son of Percy Lee Sanders Sr. and Grace Corina (Doris) Sanders, both deceased. He was born and raised in Kilmichael, Mississippi along with his brothers, Melton (aka Troy) (Lucille) of South Bend, Indiana and Iredell Sanders (deceased); and his sisters, Eva Lou Redmond of Chicago, Illinois, Marlene Hargrove of Memphis, Tennessee, and Annie Jean Weatherspoon of Merrillville, Indiana. Mr. Sanders married the love of his life, Shirley Terry on October 19, 1957 and was the faithful husband of one wife for 59 years. Shirley Ann (Terry) Sanders preceded him in death April 8, 2017. Surviving are his children, Elder Darrell (Kathy) L. Sanders, Teresa (Minister Donald) Perry, Perry (Cherrie) Sanders, Corina Sanders and Cedric Sanders. Mr. Sanders was the proud grandfather of Donald Perry Jr., Latreesa Perry, Tavarus (Kamika) Perry, Joshua Sanders, Daniel Sanders, Andrew Sanders, Aaron Sanders, Ashlin Sanders, Andrea Sanders, Timara Lauderdale, Cedrianna Sanders, Cedrice Sanders, Devin Sanders, Aliya Sanders, and Daevion Sanders. His great-grandchildren are Kyla Perry, Kyron Sanders, Ruel Perry, Shawn Alexander Delgado Sanders, and Haylee Grace Delgado Sanders.

Mr. Sanders leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Some of his employers included Cummins Transmission, Clark Equipment, Uniroyal, The South Bend Parks Department, and Integrity Cleaning Service. Wherever he worked, he was well-respected for his humility, sense of humor, and work ethic. Percy was an excellent example of what it means to be a good father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather and just an all-around great man. He leaves a rich legacy for his family and will be forever missed. Because we know that heaven is sure, our goal now as a family is to live in such a way that we will see him again and that he can be proud of what each of us has done in our lives. A Memorial Service will take place, with greeting the family at 10:00 am followed by a service at 11:00 am, on January 20, 2018 at Alford's Mortuary, 1222 Napier Street, South Bend, Indiana.
