Obituary

Mrs. Laura A Crum

Mrs. Laura A. Crum, wife of Mr. Cyrus M. Crum, the esteemed County Clerk of this county, died at her residence in New City on Friday afternoon last, at 4 o’clock. Deceased had been gradually failing for a long time, being a victim of consumption, and latterly she was so weakened down as to be confined to bed.

Mrs. Crum was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Dickey of this village, and in her early school days she had acquired scores of friends whose kind regard for her had grown with the increasing years, and had developed into the tenderest sympathy for her when it was learned she was ill.

In her married life she a kind and loving wife and mother, and left in the hearts of her beloved husband and children deep traces of affection that time will never obliterate.

Nearly the last sounds that struck upon her ear jut before she departed were the mingled voices of her husband and daughters in sacred song, and as she passed away in safe into the Master’s arms, hearts that were bound to her by sacred ties overflowed with sorrow. We tender our warmest sympathy to the bereaved husband and children of the deceased, and to all relatives and friends, but we realize that there is only One who can give them real comfort and consolation and their hearts peace.

When the fact of Mrs. Crum’s death was announced to the Court, the following order was issued by Judge Suffern:

Court Room, Clarkstown, New York
February 13, 1880

The sad intelligence of the death of the wife of a respected officer of this Court, who has just been called from his duties here to the chamber of death at his home, has been communicated to the Court; and, this as well in it own, as in behalf of the Bar, officers and jurors of the Court, its sympathy with Cyrus M. Crum, Esq., the Clerk of this County, and his family in their affliction, orders this minute to be placed on it record, and a copy hereof sent to Mr. Crum.
