The Tuesday, March 8, 1927 edition of the Greensboro Record included (page 9):
Oscar N. Hackett, well-known resident, died Monday morning at 6 o'clock at the family residence, 904 Vance street, following an illness of ten days. He was 73 years of age. Surviving are his wife and two children, Mrs. J. B. Rowe of Staunton, VA., and James Hackett, of this city; also one sister, Mrs. J. T. Palmer of Richmond, Va. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Rehobeth church, near the city, conducted by Rev. J. Frank Armstrong, pastor of Centenary Methodist church. Interment was in the church burying ground...Mr. Hackett came to Greensboro about 22 years ago and was one of the pioneers in the cement contracting work, being actively engaged in this business for many years. Many of the older concrete sidewalks of the city were built by Mr. Hackett, who at one time was engaged in the manufacture of cement building blocks on a small scale. He was known to many of the older residents and was esteemed by a wide circle of acquaintances.
