Marie Kay (Lehman) Griffin, age 78 , daughter of Dale and Kathryn (Tibben) Lehman, was born February 24, 1939 in Guthrie Center, Iowa. She passed away peacefully into our Savior’s loving arms on Friday, January 5th, 2018 at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center, Iowa.
Marie attended Guthrie Center schools and graduated in 1957. She met her future love through her good friend ZoeAnn (Griffin) Bacon, and on May 2, 1958 she married Dale Ivan Griffin. The couple had one child, daughter Jacqueline (Griffin) Doyle and celebrated just under 50 years together before Dale’s passing.
Marie held numerous positions of employment; book keeper for some local businesses, Guthrie Center High School secretary and office staff at The New Homestead to name a few. She loved spending time with her family and friends, being outside, caring for her flower and vegetable gardens, camping and travel. Dale and Marie spent many winters “snow birding” in Yuma, Arizona where they enjoyed escaping the cold Iowa winters and soaking up some Arizona sunshine. Marie enjoyed being part of her church community at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Guthrie Center and her local community where she shared many hours in organizations such as: the Fireman Women’s Auxiliary, the Hospital Auxiliary, and Royal Neighbors of America. Marie always had a smile to share, a warm heart, and just a hint of saltiness to mingle with her sweetness.
Marie is proceeded in death by her parents Dale Lehman and Kathryn (Tibben) Lehman, sister Mae (Lehman) Kronborg, and husband Dale Griffin.
She is survived by daughter Jacqueline (Griffin) Doyle of Kentucky; grandsons Justin Doyle and granddaughter in law Rachel (Morgan) Doyle of Virginia, Aaron Doyle of Colorado, and Weston Doyle, also of Colorado; granddaughter Alea Doyle of Kentucky; and great-granddaughter due in April to Justin and Rachel; brother Kenny Lehman of Iowa; sisters Betty (Lehman) Coffman of Arizona and Linda (Lehman) Webber of Iowa.
Marie’s memorial will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Guthrie Center, Iowa on Saturday, January 13th, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the discretion of the family.
