OBITUARY: Jack Dwight Oliver
July 29, 1943 – November 25, 2017

Jack Dwight Oliver passed away just weeks after being diagnosed with Leukemia. He was a proud member of the Kennewick pioneer family; spending his youth here.

Jack graduated from K.H.S, class of 1961. Following graduation, he attended Pacific Lutheran University with a degree in Business Administration. Upon finishing his college years, he served in the U.S. Army; spending his time in Viet Nam with Delta Devils Helicopter Corps. After coming home, he settled in California where he met the love of his life, Jane. They were married for 48 years.

Jack played an active role in his community. When his children were young he served on the board of the American River Soccer League. Jack also served on the alumni board of his alma mater, Pacific Lutheran University for 10 years. He volunteered for many years with the Boy Scouts of America, concluding his career with them as the Council Commissioner of the Golden Empire Council.

Jack’s faith comprised the core of his personal and family life. Jack filled many positions at St. John the Evangelist Parish. More recently, he developed a special devotion to the Passionist Order in Citrus Heights. At the time of his death, he was working on his Masters of Theology.

He is survived by his loving wife Jane; sons Barclay (Amber), grandchildren Grace and Izzabelle; Sean (Casey), grandchildren Noelle, Sam, Mary, Leela, Jacob, Nathan and Levi; all from Sacramento, California; daughter Joy (Nate) Oliver-Thrulsen, of Paris, France; sister Teresa (Steve) Einan, brother Paul, and brother from another mother, Stephen (Karen) Osborne, all of Kennewick.

Preceding him in death are his parents Jack and Barbara Oliver, and brother Marshall.

In short, Jack was husband, grandfather (Poppa), son, brother, soldier, student, scout, businessman, gourmand, gardener, car guy, referee, lector, wine enthusiast, world traveler, train lover, storyteller, backpacker, a man of great faith and an all-around good guy.

His life was celebrated with a Mass at St. John the Evangelist and inurnment at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.

A local celebration will be held in mid-to-late February. Notice will be in the Tri-City Herald
