On Dec. 30, 2017, heaven welcomed another star.

Larry was born Oct. 22, 1925, to Louise and Ansel Adkins and grew up in Plymouth. On April 3, 1944, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and proudly served in numerous battle campaigns in Europe. His military honors included the Combat Infantry Badge and two bronze stars.

One story he enjoyed sharing was how a locket his sweetheart gave him saved his life. He carried that bullet-creased heart with him always.

And 71 years later, Jean was still the love of his life.

Family and friends gathered at the cottage on Lake Waramaug for many years to swim, fish, boat and share good times. Larry enjoyed hunting and ice fishing as well. Many will remember those trips to Maine for a long time.

A brother Raymond preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean; sons, Larry and his wife Mary, of Torrington, Ross and his wife JaneAnn, of Litchfield, Dale and his wife Becky, of Harwinton; and daughter Terry, of Maine; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
