Rayford Self King passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on January 5, 2018.

Preceding him - wife Carolyn Elaine (Hall) King and daughter Valerie Jean Murphy, brothers Albert (Jr.) King and Pete King. He is survived by his children Miriam Kelmers and Ben, Kim Smith, Matt King and Terra, son-in-law Mike Murphy, sisters Teresa McNair, Mary Jo Schmidt, and Margaret Sorrow, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Rayford was an Air Force veteran, stationed in Okinawa during the Korean Conflict.

He had a long career with IBM, working at Los Alamos and Oak Ridge National Labs. After 30 years with IBM, he worked for 10 years for TVA. He spent his retirement years helping his wife Elaine with doll making, loving grandchildren, and traveling. Rayford loved his family, taking great pleasure in spending time with them. He loved children and held a special place in his heart for them. He will be remembered fondly for his loving smile and booming laugh.

Special thanks to Ryan King and Mike Murphy for the loving care they showed Rayford during his last months.

Funeral 5pm Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in the Kyker Chapel.

Burial 3 pm Thursday at Piney Cemetery in Oakdale with Military Honors by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 5 pm Wednesday at the Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston.
