George Robert Grubb HARRIS was born 6th April 1843 in Goulburn, NSW - He was the 2nd child of parents were Jonathan HARRIS and Ann GRUBB.

His older brother William Thomas HARRIS was born 12th September 1841, Grampion Hills via Marulan, NSW - Died 15th May 1913, Union Street, Goulburn, NSW


His mother was 2 months pregnant with George when his father was convicted and sent to gaol - never to return to the family, leaving his mother destitute and in care of Jonathan's children from his 1st Marriage.


His mother baptised him in Goulburn in April 1843, St Saviours, Church of England, Goulburn, NSW, Australia as George Robert Grubb HARRIS.


His mother entered a relationship with William OLLIVER (but they did not formally marry until 18th February 1861 at the Wesleyan Parsonage, Goulburn – both listed as widowed – but Ann's husband lived for another 30 years (remarried)

Witnesses Thomas and Sarah GRUBB – her brother and sister-in-law.)


George Robert Grubb was re-baptised at the age of five as George Robert Grubb OLLIVER along with his younger 1/2 sister Elizabeth OLLIVER who was born 5th August 1848, at Gundaroo, NSW.

Other 1/2 siblings were Henry OLLIVER (born 11th March 1851, Gunning, NSW),

Rebecca Grubb OLLIVER born 17th July 1856, Auburn Street, Goulburn, NSW

Jane (Janet) Lake OLLIVER Born 3rd June 1859, Goulburn NSW


After his mother's death George resumed using the surname of HARRIS until his death.

George Robert Grubb HARRIS married Bridget BURREN on the 28th June 1864, at his uncle Thomas GRUBB'S home at Towrang, NSW
