He was the son of Frank Garrett and Iva Rhodes Garrett. He was married to Thelma Beals on August 29, 1958. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lum Garrett, Columbus Garrett and Henry Frank Garrett; and two sister, Cleo Walters and Bessie Muncrief. He was an U. S. Navy veteran serving from 1948-1952 on the USS Jason as a pharmacist mate and he was also stationed in Sasabho, Japan. He retired from the U. S. government as a cook instructor for the Job Corp. He is survived by his wife Thelma Garrett of Royal; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Virginia Garrett of Hot Springs, Melva and Ron Welborn of Rosebud and Genella and Scott Smith of Dover; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Jessie and William Dillard of Hot Springs and Ruby Ray of Nashville, Arkansas.
