Donald Otto “Sarge” Patmore, age 90, of Huntington, died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at his home.

Don was born on September 4, 1927 in Coupeville, Washington, the son of Charles Frederick and Gladys Amelia (Haaff) Patmore. He attended Coupeville High School before enlisting in the United States Merchant Marines and later joining the United States Army. His military career spanned World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, during which he was a Platoon Sergeant. He married Maurine Holmes, and she preceded him in death on December 18, 1977. His second marriage to Patricia Jane ended with her passing on November 17, 2015. Don was elected Coroner in Spencer County and also served as a deputy sheriff. He managed the campground at Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana. Don was a member of American Legion Post #7 and VFW Post #2689 in Huntington and was a 42nd degree Mason. He was a master woodcrafter and loved making anything with wood, such as cabinets and tables. His favorite place in the world was Ebey’s Landing in Washington.

Survivors include a son, Donald M. (Kim) Patmore and a daughter, Joni M. Sharkey, both of Huntington, a stepdaughter, Deborah Ann (David) Brink Evans of Rockport, and six grandchildren, Michael R. (Stacey) Patmore of Fort Wayne, Donnie J. Patmore of Huntington, Brendan P. Sharkey of Bloomington, Tiffany S. Partridge of Rockport, Tessa A. (Clint) Johnson of Santa Claus, and McKenzie Haneline of West Lafayette. He is preceded in death by his parents, both wives, a brother, David Patmore, two sisters, Charlene Peattie and Roberta Lee, and a son-in-law, Patrick “Pat” Sharkey.

Visitation will be from 3 - 7 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Mike Hill officiating and military rites performed by VFW Post #2689 of Huntington. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. A memorial will be placed in Little Pigeon Church Cemetery at a later date.
