James, 81, of Marshall died on Monday January 1, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family following a long illness. Jim was born to Clarence and Margaret (McGean) Clement.

He graduated from Iona Prep School in New York in 1954. He graduated from the University of Detroit with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1959. On May 30, 1959, he married Mary Lou Swoish in Detroit.

Jim started his career in the foundry industry with American Steel in Chicago, transferred to the Sturgis foundry, and later, he would retire from Harvard Industries in Albion in 2000 after working for 35 years.

He was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church and enjoyed singing in the Men’s Choir. Jim was an avid supporter of the Marshall School Sports and Music Boosters. He was an instrumental part of the creation of “The Redskin Open.”

Jim loved and supported his children by going to or coaching their sports teams in school. He was extremely artistic and displayed his talents through a lifetime of woodworking and despite his illness has created hundreds of beautiful mandalas. Jim thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family – especially time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou, of Marshall; children, Cathy (John) Nicholson of Florence, South Carolina, Colleen Clement of Marshall, Jenny (Rob) Oleksa of Marshall, Jim (Kristin) Clement of Cornelius, North Carolina; grandchildren, Charlie, Brendan, Sami, Keira, and Finn; sister, Martha Kloeck, of Albany, Oregon; and a brother, Paul (Rita) Clement, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy Horton.

A funeral mass took place on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Father Craig Lusk officiating. Interment followed at Saint Mary’s Cemetery. Family gathered with friends following the committal service at Saint Mary’s Parish Hall.

Memorial contributions are requested to the Fountain Clinic.
