Thomas was only 2-3 years old when the family emigrated from Norway to America. According to my grandmother (Nettie) Thomas' father, John, died aboard the ship from Norway, leaving a wife and young son to start a new life in America. His wife, Lena, married shortly after arriving in Wisconsin to Ole Olson. Thomas always considered himself a Johnson, despite the fact that his name apparently was legally changed to Olson, probably indicating that Ole adopted him.
