AIKEN – Mr. Paul Edgar Roe, Sr., 79, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018, after a 5-year courageous battle with cancer.

A lifelong resident of Aiken, Paul worked for 56 years in the fertilizer and chemical business as owner of Carolina Eastern. He was also a member of the Aiken Masonic Lodge 156, a Shriner with the Jamil Temple of Columbia, a member of the S.C. Waterfowl Association, the Williston Tuesday Night Supper Club, and was the oldest living member of the Aiken County Soil and Water Conservation Society. Paul was an active member of Clearwater Branch Baptist Church. He was well known for his "culinary" skills, and his many humorous stories. Above all, he enjoyed making people laugh. The family wishes to publicly thank Karen Falcon with Hospice Care of SC for her care and compassion over the past several months.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Bass Roe; daughter, Rhonda (Chuck) Shaver, Aiken; sons, Jimmy (Michelle Lane) DuRant, Aiken, Allen (Julie) DuRant, Aiken; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brooks) Abney, Caley (David) Crowe, Holden Shaver, Maggie Boyle, Vonnie (Kevin) Carr, Brandi Whatley; great granddaughter Savannah Abney; a sister, Wynez Roe, Aiken; brothers, George (Mae) Roe, Jacksonville, FL, Ralph Roe, Sr., Aiken; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Samuel Roe and Myrtis E. Couch Roe, sons Paul, Jr. and David Wayne Roe.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Town Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Mike Catoe officiating. Interment will follow in the Clear Water Branch Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Carlton Wall, Walker Nix, John Thomas, Ralph Roe, Jr., Holden Shaver, Brooks Abney, David Crowe, Jasper Agner. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Williston Tuesday Night Supper Club.

Memorials may be directed to the Shriner’s Hospital, 950 W Faris Rd, Greenville, SC 29605, St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or the Clear Water Branch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 235 Crooked Creek Rd., Aiken, SC 29805.
