Ronald grew up in Rudyard and graduated from Rudyard Area Schools, where he played baseball. He met Karen Spring one day when she happened to run out of gas in front of his farm. They married on June 1, 1963, at St James Lutheran Church in Rudyard. He worked for McDowell Equipment for 25 years and drove school bus for 30 years. He retired from Rudyard Township Water and Sewer in 1999 when he had heart surgery.
Ronald was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Rudyard, the St. Ignace American Legion post number 62, and the National Rifle Association.
Ronald enjoyed taxidermy and was licensed for over 50 years. He completed hundreds of deer mounts. With help from his son Ron Jr., he accumulated numerous deer heads along with many other animals including bobcats, bears, and porcupine. He was a great musician playing the banjo, Dobro, guitar, mandolin, and fiddle in a band “Barrowed Time” for many years. Ron was an avid hunter and loved all his time at the hunting camp, he spent sixty hours at the camp brush hogging last fall. He also liked played fast pitch softball.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Karen Royer of Rudyard; sons, Ronald W. Royer and Randy E. (Tracy) Royer both of Rudyard; grandchildren, Jamie L. Royer serving in the United States Navy in Texas, Lauren R. Royer, Hanna B. Royer, Randi L. Royer, and Luke D. Royer, all of Rudyard; brother, James Royer of Escanaba, Michigan; sisters, Jean (Jim) Ross of Rudyard, and Alice (Clinton) Spring of Rudyard.
Ronald is preceded in death by his parents.
