Richard L. “Dick” Morrill, 81, Clinton, MN, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Milbank, SD.

Funeral services were Saturday, December 28, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clinton with Rev. Anna Williamson officiating. Music was provided by pianist Kari Casper and vocalist Ann Nelson.
Burial was in the Clinton City Cemetery, Clinton. Military honors were provided by the Campbell-Williams American Legion Post 258 of Clinton. Honorary urn bearers were the Campbell-Williams American Legion Post 258 of Clinton. Active urn bearer was Allen Morrill.

Visitation was Friday, December 27, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clinton and continued Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Richard Lee Morrill was born July 16, 1932, in Big Stone County, MN, to Cecil and Agnes (Christeson) Morrill. He was baptized and confirmed at the Elim Lutheran Church in Clinton. Dick attended school in Clinton graduating from Clinton High School in 1951. On October 20, 1953, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. For his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged October 5, 1955. After returning from the service, he began farming in Malta Township near Clinton.

On August 13, 1966, Dick married Betty Bell at the Evangelical Brethren Church in Big Stone City, SD. Dick was a busy farmer for many years. In 1986, he retired from farming and moved to California and worked as a security officer for Dean’s Security at Edwards Air Force Base. Dick was present when the shuttles were landing there. Dick was recognized as Officer of the Quarter and received many commendations. He retired in 1997.

Dick’s main hobby was working. He could never sit still for a whole football or basketball game on TV. He enjoyed ice fishing and dancing to old-time waltzes. In his retirement, he loved to garden and grew the most beautiful roses. Every afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00, he played cards with a group of fellows from town. Above all, Dick was a very loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed his sons and played lots of ball with them.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Clinton; four sons, Robert (Pamela) Morrill of Willmar, MN, Frank (Sherie) Morrill of Sparks, NV, Allen Morrill of Tucson, AZ, and David (Betty) Morrill of Brick, NJ; ten grandchildren, Jaclyn, Alexis, Tiffany, Alexandria, Ryan, Allen II, Robert, Audrey, Ashley and Kyle; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Roger (Marlene) Morrill of Woodinville, WA, and Donald (Mariane) Morrill of Ortonville, MN; sister, Karen (Harlen) Nelson of Clinton; and sister-in-law, Joan Morrill of Clinton.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Agnes; brothers, Frank and Leonard; and sister, Sylvia.
