He was born November 23, 1927, to the late Stephen and Caroline (Stanko) Horvath. Joseph proudly worked for 35 years as an excavating engineer with Scully Construction. He belonged to Local Union 150. Every time you saw Joseph, you had to prepare yourself for a big "grandpa hug." Joseph loved to fish and was very proud of the aquarium he had at home. He enjoyed sports and polka dancing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and friends. Joseph will forever be remembered for his big, contagious smile, supporting all those in his life, being positive and optimistic, and his large, always willing to help heart. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving son, Chris (Colleen); dear grandchildren, Jared (Kandyce), Brooke (Derek), Andrew, and Kaitlyn; cherished great-granddaughter, Nicoletta; and siblings, Mike Horvath and Mary Powers. He is further survived by his longtime companion of more than 20 years, Vicki Adamczyk; and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, of whom he treated like his own family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Martin, Steven, Sophie Hanssen, and John.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., on Friday, January 5, 2018, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry, IL 60050. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 3500 W. Washington St, McHenry. Interment will follow at Church of Holy Apostles Cemetery.
