Mr. Furlow, 51, died April 14, 2005 in Brookhaven. He was born in Wesson on Sept. 21, 1953, to Mary Lou and James Brown Furlow.
He was the departmental coordinator with the City of Brookhaven, where he worked for over 33 years. He also held positions such as traffic director, assistant water superintendent and captain of the Brookhaven Fire Department. He had attended Wesson Public Schools. He was an active member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Furlow was a member and director of the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, former president, vice president and board member of the Brookhaven Exchange Club, participant in the Competitive Community Program, former board member of United Way of Lincoln County, former board member of Brookhaven Trust, 2004 grand marshal of the Brookhaven Christmas Parade, and volunteer for the Ole Brook Festival and Tour of Homes for many years. He was an active member of the Red Neck Ridge Camp Club.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Benton Furlow; a sister, Veryl Mercier; his father-in-law, W.E. "Doodle" Foster; and a brother-in-law, Keith Eugene Foster of Brookhaven.
Survivors are his wife of 29 years, Sheila Kay Foster Furlow; his daughter, Kayla Keith Furlow; his son, Adam Burton Furlow; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Inez and Bugga Denise of Ocean Springs and Ann and Bill Grone of Brookhaven; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Francis Furlow of Jackson, and Stanley "Butch" and Caroline Furlow of Lafayette, La.; his mother-in-law, Tera Lee Foster of Brookhaven; his sister-in-law, Becky Vaughn Furlow of Brookhaven; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bruce and Brenda Foster of Brookhaven; a host of nieces and nephews; and many special friends and family members.
Jimmy Furlow is well known as a selfless, giving individual who never wanted acclaim or credit for what he did for others. He was always thinking of others first, on the job, in the community, and in all relationships. He was a very talented person who quietly put others and their needs first. He could be seen helping elderly people, friends, and others who were acquaintances doing all kinds of things. Most of all, he was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was loved by all who knew him
