US Congressman. He served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from Kansas' Third Congressional District from January 3, 1967 to January 3, 1985. He was a talented athlete in high school , but his athletic career was short at sixteen when a boating accident cost him a leg. He earned a journalism degree in 1941 from the University of Kansas and worked at a B-25 bomber factory in Kansas City, Kansas during the Second World War. After the war, he turned to home building and was a vice president of Winn-Rau Corporation from 1950 to 1966. In 1966 he was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives and served in this position until deciding to not seek another term in 1984. During his tenure in Congress, he developed friendships on both sides of the aisle. He was also known for his constituent services. He lived in Prairie Village, Kansas until his passing.
