Yost, James Clement, - 85, of Northfield, passed away at his home on January 2, 2018. He was born on March 3, 1932 in Atlantic City, NJ to Charles Albert Yost and Martha Marie (Schreiner) Yost. He grew up in the Bungalow Park section of the Inlet area of Atlantic City. He graduated from Auto Mechanics Vocational Technical High School before entering the U.S. Coast Guard where he was a diesel mechanic on the Tamaroa. He received a special award for saving a man who could not swim, dragging him to the boat and resuscitating him. He married Lorraine Barbara Accardi on February 24,1956 in Ventnor, NJ. After his discharge from the Coast Guard he worked for Hill Dredging in 1957 for four years. Jim and Lorraine lived in Atlantic City until 1959 when they moved to Northfield, N.J. Jim acquired his Coast Guard Captain's (All Waters) Towing License and began running tugboats for DMK Marine Towing (owned by his father-in-law Milt Wescoat) about 1962. In 1964 Jim was left to run the company after his father-in-law, Milt Wescoat, died. His tugboat career culminated with the building of the Claiborne Pell Bridge in Newport R.I. from 1966 to 1969. After DMK, he worked for Automatic Tolls Corp on the Atlantic City Expressway. In the mid-1970s he started East Coast Alarm Company from which he retired in 2009. Jim was an avid and excellent fisherman, water skier, sailor and skilled boat handler. He was extremely talented in mechanical and electronic areas, including the refurbishment and rebuilding of three tugboats for DMK Marine Towing Company. He and Lorraine enjoyed the company of their lifetime friends with whom they had regular Friday night dinners out and many vacations together. He is survived by his wife Lorraine, a son Ralph (Celeste) Yost of Cape Coral, FL and a daughter Denise Yost of Hawthorne, NJ. He is survived by one grandson, Torre Colianni, two step-grandchildren April (Zapotoczny) Martyn and Betsy (Zapotoczny) Barron and thee great-grandchildren, Aaron Martyn, Jack Barron and Reese Barron. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Kenneth J. Wescoat and his wife Debbie. Friends will be received at the Adams-Perfect Funeral Home Saturday, January 6, 2018, from 1-2:00pm where a memorial service will be held at 2:00pm. Burial will be help privately in the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to and condolences may be sent to the family at www.adams-perfect.com
