James "Jim" Walter Acton, age 79, of Owenton passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
Born December 21, 1938 in Birmingham, AL he was the son of the late Matthew and Nona McCormick Acton. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Buddy, Braxton, Marie Doris, and Jimmie Lou. Jim had a great love for life, he served his country in the United States Army. He was involved in the community as the owner of Scoopy Doo Restaurant for many years, belonged to the Masonic Lodge, umpired baseball and coached little league baseball even when he didn't have children of his own participating. His love of sports extend to being an avid UK Wildcat fan. Jim also enjoyed traveling and fishing.
Surviving are his children, James W. "Chip" Acton, Jr. of Alabama and Pam (Steve) Brock of Owenton; his grandchildren, Cheryl "Beth" Baker, Matthew travis Brock and mary "Elizabeth Acton; step-grandchildren, Robbie, Joshua, Kevin, Taylor Blair and Drew; and great grandchildren, Brayden, Brock and Isaiah. A host of extend family and friends also survive.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 4-8pm. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Friday with Bro. Greg Guy presiding. Burial will be in the Monterey Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church Food Pantry or Monterey Cemetery
