She was born in Graham County, the daughter of the late Jesse and Zenia Marcus Crisp.
A graduate of Stecoah High School and Asheville Normal Teachers ' College in Asheville, Mrs. Edwards taught elementary and junior high school students in Graham and Mecklenburg counties until her retirement. Effie was a former member of Enderly Park Baptist Church and was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Edwards, in 1981.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews, and special nephews, Jerry Crisp, Randy Hensley and Rex Hyde.
The funeral for Mrs. Edwards will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mulberry Baptist Church, 6450 Tuckaseegee Road.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West.
