Jackie Wallace Bowman, 80, of Conover, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Catawba Regional Hospice of Sherrills Ford.

Born December 3, 1937 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late John Dewey Bowman, Sr. and Louise Hendrix Bowman.

Jackie served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958 in the 516th Field Artillery Battalion Battery C, Spec-4, and a member of the Iredell Pointing Dog Club training and championing English Setters and Pointers. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He was also known in the area as one of the finest skilled craftsmen in carpentry. Jackie loved his gardening, music, dancing and he had a playful heart that loved to make other people laugh.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory with the Rev. Dale Faulkenbury officiating. Burial will follow in Winkler's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service from 1 - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Rick Bowman, Greg Poteet, Truman Walton, Buddy Odom, Dustin Odom and Jonathan Sanford.
