Marshall was born in San Angelo, Texas, the eldest son of the late Marshall M. and Anise Fowler Johnson. After a reportedly rambunctious youth, he graduated from San Angelo High School and enrolled at Tarleton State College for a semester then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Marshall served in San Antonio for the final months of the World War II, then enrolled at Texas A&M College and earned a degree in Animal Husbandry in 1949.
He married Hazel Alene Stein in 1951 and they raised two sons while traveling across Texas. They returned to San Angelo in the mid-1960s where he began a career in truck sales. Then moving again to Houston, El Paso, San Antonio, and Fredericksburg, he served for several years as regional manager for General Motors and retired in 2000 as sales manager for San Antonio Trucks. Marshall was a carpenter at heart, like his grandfather, and created many beautiful furniture pieces that will be family heirlooms.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel; sons, Steve Johnson and his wife, Therran, of San Angelo and Jeff Johnson and his wife, Judy, of Leland, Mississippi; grandchildren: Dan Johnson and his wife, Brittany, of Lufkin, Ellen Lamb and her husband, Steven, of Richardson, Jessica Box and her husband, Chad, of San Angelo, and Brady Johnson and his wife, Danika, of Wall; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Johnson Nord; and seven nieces and nephews and their families. 05
