The birth place of John R. Short was probably King George Co. VA. His parents were in the process of relocating from King George to Pittsylvania Co in 1766. Court records indicate that his mother Winifred (Randall) Short "cannot conveniently travel" when John's father John Short returned to King George to take care of some business. I think Winnie probably had her small child John with her. It could also be the child was not born yet, which would mean little John R. Short could have been born some where between King George and Pittsylvania Co. VA. We will keep it as King George for now.

Why John R. Short, instead of Randall or Randolph? Read below.

.. 1773 John Short (John R. Short's father) made a land transaction in Pittsylvania Co. Virginia. His name was spelled out as John RANDALL Short 4 times. His son of the same name was about 6-7 years old at the time. John Short apparently used his wife's MAIDEN name Randall as his MIDDLE name.
. .1786, John Randolph Short and John Short (assumed to be his father) appeared in court, TOGETHER, in Franklin Co. VA. FYI, John R. Short's mother was Winifred Randall but some have her grandparents surname as Randolph rather than Randall.
. .In May 1787,John Randolph Short, 1 under 21, was taxed in Franklin Co
. .In Dec 1794, John R. Short married Nancy Leach in Fauquier Co VA.
. .In 1800, John Randall Short was taxed $1.12 in Fauquier Co VA. He had 1 tithable, 2 Negro over 16, -, & 2 horses.
. .1818 John R. Short died in Fauquier Co VA
...You decide....

John and Nancy (Leach) Short had at least 7 sons, and a possible daughter.
