Memorial services will be held Thursday, January 4th, at 11:00 AM at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, IA, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
David Lloyd Olson was born on August 29, 1953, in Waukon, IA, the son of Lloyd and Ruby (Uren) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, IA, and graduated from Waukon High School in 1971, and attended tech school in Des Moines, IA.
On August 7, 1976 he married Veronica Hill at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church.
Dave worked at Jim's DX and for Cooney's Construction both in Waukon, before he went to work for J.B. Holland Construction in Decorah, IA, where he was a diesel mechanic and equipment operator for over 25 years.
Dave was member of Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church. He enjoyed going to truck and tractor pulls, monster truck shows with his grandchildren, fishing, following NASCAR, and car cruises. He was a handyman working on cars and houses. Dave loved cookouts, spending time with his family, and following his grandchildren’s activities.
Survivors include his wife Veronica Olson of Harpers Ferry; his children: Steve Hill of Waukon, Janet Olson of Evansdale, IA, and Mandy (Steve) Hammel of Waukon; eight grandchildren: Rylee, Marquis, and Maxwell Olson, Cloee, Madison, Trey, and Jayce Hammel, and Jeffery Haas; a sister Deborah (Cliff) McElroy of West Union, OH; a nephew Chad Olson; and many other nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law: Wesley Hill and Wayne (Anna) Hill; and two sisters-in-law: Virginia (Lyle) Hanson and Vickie (Steve) Kriener.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Honorary casketbearers are Herb Dehli, Jim Evanson, Gary Mahr, Robert Olson, Dewey Prouty, Bob and Norbert Swenson, and Randy Huffey.
