Lawrence G. “Larry” McDonald, 79, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Bickford Cottage in Cedar Falls.

He was born June 23, 1938, in St. Albans, Queens, New York, the son of Francis Bernard and Mary Josephine Gray McDonald.

He married Barbara Dunn March 26, 1966, in Waterloo.

Larry received both his BS and MS degrees from Emporia State Teachers College. He was a school Psychologist; first principal at River Hills School and later the Assistant Director of Special Education at AEA 7, retiring in 2001.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Waterloo, where he served on the Parish Council, finance chairman, marriage preparation, and Eucharistic minister. He also belonged to Civitan International and the Association for Retarded Citizens.

Survived by: his wife of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Debbie Flannery of Friedley, MN and Colleen (Carey) Melz of Lakeville, MN; four grandchildren, Julie Flannery and Connor, Carter, and Caitlyn Melz; three brothers, John (Lois), Bill (Dorothy) and Michael (Barbara); two sisters, Mary (John) Kallstrom and Tricia (Truman) Davis; sisters in law, Carol and Mary McDonald; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded by: his parents; two brothers, Frank and Tom; and two nephews, David McDonald and Tieran Davis.

Memorial Mass: 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic in Waterloo, with inurnment in the Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 9 until service time at the church.

Memorial contributions may be directed to: River Hills School Foundation-Equipment Fund, Blessed Sacrament Living Legacy Fund, or the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeast Iowa.

Larry was a most loving man – a true professional, a wonderful husband, father, uncle and friend. He loved his family, had empathy for all, and loved his free time for tennis, yard work and playing with his grandchildren and all children.
