1996 obituary. John M. Warren Jr., retired manager, active citizen. NOKOMIS, Fla. - John M. Warren Jr., 83, of Nokomis, died Sunday at a Venice hospital from lung cancer. He was born in Portland, Maine, and attended Portland schools. From 1943 to 1946, he served in the Navy. For many years, Mr. Warren was employed by Porteous, Mitchell & Braun Store. Portland He started as a stock boy and became a merchandise manager. For three years he was a sales representative for Holeproof Hosiery and Luxite Lingerie Corp., then joined J.E. Palmer Company in Portland as a merchandise manager until 1954. He was a merchandise manager at Tepper's Department Store in Plainfield, N.J., until 1964. He moved to Augusta, Maine, and was general manager of D.W. Adams Company, and retired in 1978. He was a chairman of Warren Township Recreation Commission, a past president of Warren Township Lions Club, Downtown Augusta Merchants Association, Augusta Area Chamber of Commerce and the Maine Merchants Association. He was a member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters Association, a past president of his homeowners association here and volunteered at Venice Hospital for several years and Nokomis Elementary School for a short while. He was a 32 degree Mason. He summered at Boothbay Harbor, Maine, and was the first president of the Lineken Heights Association. Surviving are four daughters; and nine grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. April 20 in Forest City Cemetery. South Portland, Maine.
