Gertrude A. Blachowske, 96, of Fairmont

Memorial service for Gertrude A. Blachowske, 96, of Fairmont will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 5, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the Lakeveiw Funeral Home. Gertrude passed away Saturday morning, January 1, 2011 at the Fairmont Medical Center. Gertrude Ann (Charnecki) Blachowske was born in Silver Lake Township on September 29, 1914 to Ignatius and Stancy (Pytleski) Charnecki. She attended District #92 country school and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in East Chain. Gertrude and Vincent S. Blachowske were united in marriage on January 29, 1932 and moved to Fairmont where they lived until Sam died in 1971. She has had various employment until she joined Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing in 1953 and worked there until retiring in 1977. Gertrude married Herbert Brough in October of 1978 and they enjoyed retirement at her residence in Fairmont until he passed away in 1988. Gertrude was a member of St. John Vianney’s Catholic Church in Fairmont and a long standing member of St. Cathrine’s Circle. She enjoyed flower gardening, bingo and casino play, television, cards and spending time with her family. Gertrude is survived by one daughter, Darlene Clark of Thorp, WI; one son and his wife, Larry and Karen Blachowske of Lake Crystal, MN; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren and 2 great-great-great grandchildren; one brother, Leo Charnecki of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Cecelia Swanson of Forest Lake. MN, and Mary Kennedy of Fairmont; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, 3 infant siblings, brothers Frank, Joe, John, Tony, Mike and Paul Charnecki; sisters, Helen Stefanski, Elizabeth Charnecki, Julia Nowicki and Kay Roe; other sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
