Melvin Phillips, Jr., age 73, of Mobile, Alabama passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017. Melvin was born April 14, 1944, in Mobile, Alabama to Christine Phillips and Melvin Phillips, Sr.
Melvin is survived by his children, Melvin Anthony (Marla) Phillips, Pamela (Gary) Stewart, and Melenda (Chris) Hinton; mother, Christine Phillips; sister Shirley Carroll and brother Daryl (Sheila) Phillips; five grandchildren, Blake Phillips, Jeremy Stewart, Bryan Hinton, Laura Hinton, and Rebecca Hinton; and a great-grandchild, Mallory Phillips.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Phillips; and father, Melvin Phillips, Sr.
Melvin was a Vietnam veteran of the United States Army, where he served two tours and attained the rank of Spec 5.
A visitation for Melvin will be held Friday, December 29, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Pathway Church, 7200 Moffett Rd, Mobile, Alabama 36618. A funeral service will occur Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Valhalla Memorial Gardens, 8730 Sims Rd, Eight Mile, Alabama 36613.
