World War II Veteran Paul W. Boyd, 92, died December 22, 2017 at his daughter's home in Tallahassee, Florida.
Paul Boyd was "a superhero", "my friend and a bright spot to each and every day I was with him", "a great man", "a wonderful man and he always brightened my day when I saw him", "humble and kind", "a war hero", and "such a joker."

Paul Winford Boyd was born April 22, 1925 in McCarr, Kentucky to Thomas and Willie Boyd. Paul spent his childhood in Matewan, WV with his 8 siblings. Paul is survived by his sister Anna Evans and brother Jesse Ronald. He is preceded in death by his sisters Edith, Emma, and Nancy and brothers William, Thomas, and Charles.

On August 12, 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in his position as Gunner during World War II on the USS England DE635 and USS O'Neill DE188. Paul enjoyed telling the stories of his Naval experience and friendships made. He continued his military service in the Navy Reserves until 1967. He worked most of his life in WV as a proud coal miner.

Paul married Margaret Elizabeth Hitchcock in 1946 and they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary together on 12/21/2017. Paul and Margaret have five children Paulette Weisberger (husband Michael), Mary Hamm (husband Jesse), Larry Boyd, Gloria Vass, and Wilma Lefler (husband Skip - deceased 2011). He loved spending time with his granddaughters Sharon Weisberger, Libby Williams (husband John), Jeannie Boyd, Sarah Ferguson (husband Brent), Julie Mastronardi (husband Dan), Roxanne Adkins, Becky Keillor (husband John), and Lacey Hamm (deceased 2012). He has eight great-grandchildren.

For many years, Paul and Margaret assisted local churches preaching and leading worship services. They shared in their passion for spreading the Good News of Christ and pastored in Oak Hill, WV. He could often be heard joyfully singing tunes such as The Great Speckled Bird, Beulah Land, and Precious Memory. Paul and Margaret help many including fostering children and ran a community food bank.

On this day, December 27th, 2017, we celebrate Paul and the everlasting impact he had on others. He showed his kindness and love of others by giving his time. "He made everyone feel special, valued, and important." Margaret said of Paul, "he loved the Lord."
