Fred Lee Parker, 85, of 186 Cherokee Road, Cedartown, passed away Tuesday, June 14, following an extended illness. Mr. Parker was born in Bremen Nov. 4, 1919 to the late Lee and Ruby Alexander Parker. The Parkers moved to Cedartown in 1921. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepmother, Elizabeth Partee Parker, and a brother, James I. Parker. Mr. Parker was one of the first Eagle Scouts in Cedartown, and was later awarded the Silver Beaver, which is a high honor, for his work with the Northwest Georgia Scout Council as an adult. An honor graduate of Cedartown High School in 1936, he went on to earn a degree in engineering from Georgia Tech in 1941. He was a veteran, serving three and one half years with the U.S. Army's First Armored Division during World War II. He was discharged as a Captain in 1945. He worked with Atlanta construction companies for a number of years before joining the H.E. Hennigh Company here in Cedartown in 1950. He remained there until his retirement. Mr. Parker was an active member of the Cedartown first United Methodist Church, where he had served in various capacities over the years. He was also very active within the Polk County community, serving on the board of directors for Polk General Hospital, as well as serving as the board's chairman at one time. Additionally, he served as chairman of the First Polk Bank Shares Board of Directors, and had served as president of the Cherokee Golf and Country Club, among other things. Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Louise "Weesie" Parker of Cedartown, daughter and son in law, Louise and Mark Vagle of Buchanan; son and daughter-in-law Lee and Phyllis Parker of Cedartown; sister and brother-in-law, Beth and Van Hunt of Cedartown, and two grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, June 17, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Underwood officiating. Interment followed in the Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Woodruff, Ted Woodruff, Allen Hunt, Tim Mitchell, Dick Parker, and Ben Hunt. Honorary pallbearers were all past and present employees and staff of the H.E. Hennigh Company. The family has asked that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church or to Heyman Hospice Care of Rome. The Lester C.
