She was born June 23, 1946 in Welch, West Virginia to Daniel Morgan and Grace Lenora (Holbrook) Akers.
She is survived by daughter, Lisa Ann Mathews of Holland, Michigan; four grandchildren, Emily (Stephen) DeYoung, Ashley (Jason) Brandeberry, Nik (Jordan) Delp and Jessica (Jason) Gowing; nine great-grandchildren, Beckett and Greyson DeYoung, Joshua and Kate Brandeberry, Noah, Beckett and Thea Delp and Lily and David Gowing and three sisters, Anna Louise (Franklin) Vaughn of Goshen, and Betty Hawkins and Lora Spicher, both of West Virginia.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Teresa Lynn Delp; son-in-law, Todd Mathews; grandson, Dustin Mathews; and three brothers, Lonnie, Daniel and Frank Akers.
Barbara worked for the Elkhart County Health Department.
