Eugene "Rocky" Donald Rothrock, 95, of Arcola, died at 1:10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 at Mattoon Healthcare and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Arcola United Methodist Church with Revs. Greg Busboom and Jeff VanDyke officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Arcola VFW and American Legion Post and the U.S. Navy Honors Guard. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the funeral service at the church. Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Survivors include one son, Randy (Cynthia) Rothrock of Arcola; 2 daughters, Vicky (Wayne) Coffin of Rantoul; Angie (Gerald) Temples of Mattoon; 6 grandchildren, Amber (Justin) Recchion; Ashly (Matt) Venhaus; Jalena (Mike) Specht; Maressa (Greg) Busboom; Kami (Brett) Hefner; Wes (Shea) Temples; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Helen Ashenbramer of Springfield; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Van and Eva Anderson of Arcola; brother-in-law, George Dunagan of Arcola; He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Earl "Popeye" Brown; 1 brother, and 1 infant sister.

Rocky was born June 2, 1922 in Fowler, Indiana, the son of Harry Clyde and Eva Lena Warner Rothrock. He was united in marriage to Naomi Dunagan in Oakland, California, on October 20, 1943; she preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 2013.

He graduated from Stewardson High School in 1940. He worked for Coca Cola in Mattoon; owned and operated the Rothrock Café in Stewardson; and was employed at U.S.I. Chemical Corp in Tuscola for 34 years as maintenance supervisor.

He enlisted in the Navy in April, 1942 where he served in the Seabees in the Aleutian Islands until February, 1944. He was blessed to be a part of the Honor Flight to Washington, DC in 2011.

He was a lifetime member of the Mattoon VFW; Stewardson American Legion Post; Mattoon Eagles; and Kaskaskia Country Club where he served as a past president. He volunteered with the Arcola Telecare and spent many years transporting people to various appointments. He performed on the Arcola Honor Guard for military rites for veterans.

Rocky operated the football scoreboard at Arcola for 53 seasons, and he was one of the charter members of the "Arcola Lawn Rangers" serving as their team photographer for over 25 years. He and Naomi served as Grand Marshals for the 2002 Broom Corn Festival.

Rocky and Naomi spent countless hours working out and maintaining the Arcola Fitness Center and received the "Friends in Education" award presented by Arcola CUSD. Rocky took great joy in being a member of Arrol’s Bowling Team and Arrol’s Coffee Club, as well as his morning coffee with the guys. He also received the Honorary "A" presented by the Arcola Booster Club.

Rocky was an active member of the Arcola United Methodist Church where he served on various committees and was chairman of the Trustee’s for many years.
