Sept. 6, 1920 - Dec. 26, 2017 CHOCTAW Loyd Vernon Allen (Sr.), a longtime resident of the Nicoma Park/Choctaw area, passed away Dec. 26, 2017, at the age of 97. Born in Gravette, AR to Edwin and Elizabeth Allen, he spent most of his rich life in Oklahoma. He lived much of his childhood and teen years in Ringwood, OK, where his father Edwin managed a lumberyard. After graduating from Ringwood High School, he trained to be a lumberyard manager for Antrim Lumber Co. He served honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII as a radio/radar operator on search and rescue aircraft. After the war, Loyd returned to managing lumberyards for Antrim Lumber Co. until he had an opportunity to return to aircraft electronics in 1950. He was an electronics technician at Tinker AFB for 26 years and retired in 1976 to a peaceful life of gardening, fishing, helping others and serving his Lord as a deacon and other positions of service in Nicoma Park First Baptist and Choctaw Road Baptist churches. Loyd was ordained as a deacon in 1958. He was married to Verna Lee (Ferguson) Allen, of Rose, OK, for over 73 years. His loving wife Verna predeceased him in 2016. He is survived by their children, Dr. Loyd V. Allen Jr and wife Margaret, of Edmond, OK; and Bobby Allen and his wife Nancy, of Marion, TX. He was the proud grandfather of seven, great-grandfather of 20, and great-great-grandfather of four. Funeral service will be held Dec. 29, 2017, at 5 p.m. at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home, 1820 S. Douglas Blvd., Midwest City, with burial to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens.
