Ommund was the third child born to Eiel and Ingeborg Oftedahl in Oftedal, Bakke (now Vest-Agder), Norway. He was seven years old when Eiel moved the family to Wisconsin, settling in Coon Valley, Vernon County, and homesteading what became Grandview Farm at the corner of County Road Y and Rolling Hills Road.
He attended school at Y and Irish Ridge Road, and his church was the West Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, although they sometimes attended the Asbury Methodist Church.
On November 19, 1888, Ommund married Emma Mortenson, who was born in Sogndal, Norway, and they had five children. She died of a stroke at the age of 34.
Ommund sold his farm, and moved to Dawson, Minnesota, where he married Emma's sister, Christine Mortenson on October 18, 1901. They then had eight children.
About 1915, they moved to Nobleton, Wisconsin (Long Lake), and one more son was born there. In 1918, Ommund purchased a good, 120 acre farm at Loveland Corners, on Highway 48 northeast of Rice Lake, where he built a substantial brick home. Read more at Oftedahl.com/history.
Ommund was a successful farmer, and a great father to his children. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ.
