Survivors include her children, Joseph L. Mathias and wife Donna of Bradenton, FL, Jeffrey E. Mathias and wife Edith, of Suffolk, VA, Jon P. Mathias and wife Linda of Mobile, AL; sister Blanche Rountree of Suffolk, VA; four grandchildren Daniel Mathias and wife, Kelli, Samantha G. Fox and husband, Isaac, Courtney M. Bird and husband, Erik, and Emily E. Mathias, two great grandchildren, Cayden Middleton and Radiance Fox.
Emily graduated from King's Daughters Hospital, Portsmouth, VA in 1953 as Registered Nurse and married the love of her life, Joseph E. Mathias on July 3, 1953. Throughout her nursing career, she worked in several hospitals; Ahoskie, Columbia, Suffolk to name a few, and Doctors' offices, as well as being instrumental in the Home Health Care program in Gates County, NC. She also worked as a nurse for Union Camp, Franklin, VA and Lipton Tea, Suffolk, VA.
A Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday December 30, 2017 at 11 AM at Wilroy Baptist Church, 306 Williams Road, Suffolk, VA 23434 by the Rev. Timothy Rawls. A reception will follow the service at Wilroy with entombment at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 7 to 8:30 PM. Condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com. Memorials may be made to Wilroy Baptist Church or American Cancer Society.
