Jerry R. Dean, 77, of Terre Haute, IN formerly of Linton, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones after a long illness. Jerry was born Dec, 20, 1940 to Ralph Dean and Dorothy Alice Stropes, Linton.

He graduated from Linton Stockton High School in 1958, and attended Indiana State. Jerry retired in 2007 from Crane NWSC where he had worked for 22 years as a CAD draftsman. Previously, he had been a manager for the Farm Bureau lumberyard in Bedford, IN, and for Wicks Lumber in both Vincennes and Ellettsville. Most importantly, he was a dad and husband. Jerry was official Dad to Stephanie Doolan (Olathe, KS) and Curt Dean (Cave Creek, AZ). He was supportive and loving, attending more baseball games than can be counted, attending many band concerts, being good counsel and a shoulder to lean on when needed, and lots and lots of fishing trips and Sundays with grandparents. In 1996, he married the love of his life, Betty (White) Dean, in a small ceremony at their lake house near Linton. His other two children, Dennis Lovett and Bryan Lovett came into his life and would truly become his other sons, as he loved them dearly. Betty and he have been together every day since, and he loved her dearly, as she loved him.

Jerry was known for his kindness and generosity, and especially for his willingness to help anyone at any time. He truly embodied what it means to have never met a stranger. Jerry was a member of the Christ Temple Church in Terre Haute. Jerry is a man of devout faith and is now with sitting with Jesus at the throne of God in Heaven.

He is survived by his wife Betty, and the previously mentioned children, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren, one brother, Larry (Norma) Dean of Linton and one sister, Betty (Nick) Wines of Indianapolis. We will miss you terribly and look forward to seeing you again.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Peggy.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 28th, 2017 at Christ Temple Church, 2311 Locust Street, Terre Haute, with Pastor Merrill Weir officiating. Jerry will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Linton. Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 27th and from 9:30 AM until the time of service at 10:30 AM on Thursday at the church.

All arrangements have been entrusted to James W. Meng, Jr. and Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton.
