Vincent Lyle Anderson
95, passed away on December 11, 2017 at his home in Sun City, Palm Desert, California. He is survived by his son Bill, his daughter Mary Anne, and his grandchildren Tristan, John, and Emily. Vincent was born on April 7, 1922 in Atlanta, Georgia. His family moved to Hollywood, Ca and he graduated from Luezinger High School in Lawndale where he was a star athlete and president of his class. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in October 1940 and was assigned to the U.S.S. Lexington aircraft carrier where he served on a gun crew. Vincent later became well known as the ship's historian and gave many talks on his experiences, especially the Battle of the Coral Sea. One of his talks can be viewed on YouTube. Vincent ended his military career as a Marine Drill Sergeant. Vincent enjoyed a long, healthy, and happy life and traveled the world with his second wife, Caroline. He and Caroline retired to Sun City in 1998 and thoroughly enjoyed life in their desert community.Published in The Desert Sun on Dec. 21, 2017
