Born September 14, 1924 in Stuart, OK, she was the daughter of Luther Otis "Slick" and Ova K. (Richmond) Elwood who preceded her in death.
Virginia was a homemaker. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Salem, where she taught 4 year olds, 6 year olds and 10 year olds over a period of 60 years.
She married Donald T. Pennington, May 28, 1942 in St. Louis, MO and he preceded her in death February 4, 1980.
Also left to morn her passing are her brothers, Bill Elwood and wife Sue, and Terry Elwood, all of Salem, along with a brother-in-law Jack Stonecipher of Fayetteville, NC, and sister-in-law, Maggie Pennington of Boulder, CO, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Mattie Stonecipher, Sammie Krutsinger and husband Harlas, and her aunt, Linda Elwood.
Graveside funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday at the Paradise Cemetery in Salem with Dr. Andy DeWitt officiating. Friends are asked to gather with the family at the cemetery.
There will be no public visitation.
Memorials may be made to the ALS Foundation or to Mid American Transplant and will be accepted by the Rankin Funeral Home, entrusted with the families care.
