Heart Attack Is Fatal For Ben H. Banta

Benjamin Harvey Banta, familiarly known among friends as "Ben," expired suddenly from a heart attack at 6:30 Saturday evening while visiting friends at North Vernon. He was 74 years of age.

Mr. Banta was a native of Switzerland county, but had been a resident of Jefferson county since 1910. He located at Paynesville upon moving to this county, then later established his residence in Hanover where he operated a blacksmith shop from 1913 to 1927. Subsequently he entered the insurance sales field and followed that business several years.

He was trustee of Hanover township from 1919 to 1923. In 1951 he accepted a position at the Butlerville State School where he had charge of the water works until the time of his death. Prior to taking the institution job he served three years as a gate-keeper at Clifty Falls state park.

Mr. Banta was recognized as an amateur poet, and one time had a book of his verse published. He was a member of Hanover Presbyyterian church, Hanover Lodge of Masons and the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include a daughter, Howard Banta and Mrs. Jeanette Larson, both of Indianapolis; a brother and sister, of Acton, and Mrs. W. H. mouser, Sr., of Oklahoma City, Okla.; also two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Hanover Presbyterian church, and burial will be in the Hanover cemetery, with Masons in charge. Friends may call at the Barnes funeral home in Hanover until noon tomorrow.
