Wanda Joyce Johnson, 73, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away Friday, January 19th after a hard-fought 10-year battle with cancer at CHI Good Samaritan-Kearney

Wanda was born February 14th, 1944, at her grandmother’s farmhouse near Broken Bow, Nebraska, to Bob and Rosalie (Cook) Pracht. She graduated from Broken Bow High School. She married Norman Johnson on December 5th, 1961. They lived in Callaway, Nebraska where they farmed and raised four children—three sons and one daughter.

Wanda was involved in many different community and church activities. She and her husband, Norman, were instrumental in supporting the coaches to get the Callaway Wrestling Program started. They were also staunch supporters of the Callaway Kite Fly, working hard to keep it going successfully.

Wanda, with her husband Norman, was such a big part of the Seven Valley Senior Center. She was president of the Senior Center for many years and they were also involved in fundraising for the Senior Center with Bingo in the park during Pioneer Picnic. She was most recently fulfilling the job of treasurer in the UMW Circle, where she had previously served as president. Wanda had been involved in the Red Hats group, enjoying the fun activities they offered. Wanda was also an active member of the Callaway Chamber of Commerce. Wanda gave of herself at the Callaway Good Life Center by offering a bible study and bingo. Both her presence and willing attitude will be greatly missed, both by those who served with her and those in the community who benefitted from all she did. Her biggest accomplishment was 56 years of marriage, which stands as a significant example for the 50+ family members who knew and loved her.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Rosalie Pracht; brother, Kenneth Pracht; and sister, Sue Fieldgrove.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Norman Johnson; children Steve (Liz) Johnson of Clay Center, Randy (Denise) Johnson of King George, VA, Jim (Linda) Johnson of Callaway, and Julie Johnson of Alliance; grandchildren, David (Azaria) Johnson, Brian (Anna) Johnson, Douglas Johnson, Kayla (Nick) Cleveland, Kara (Tony) Martin, Ken Johnson, Kelsey (Devon) Kurtz, Kraig Johnson, Kolin Johnson, Kassie Johnson, Kiah Johnson, Kameron Johnson, Korrin Johnson, Katrina Johnson, Kole Johnson, Katie Johnson, Amanda (Mat) Huss, Christina (Joshua) Morales, Clover (Randy) Heneger, Taylor Johnson, Erin Johnson, Angel Johnson, Tiersa Johnson; great grandchildren Shaun Johnson, Logan Johnson, Chloe Cleveland, Hailie Cleveland, Nate Cleveland, Riley Kaper, Anthony Martin, Ximena Johnson, Tanner Johnson, Gabriel Huss, Caleb Heneger, Callie Heneger, Cade Heneger, Claire Heneger, Emma Heneger; brother Bob (Laurel) Pracht of Sun City, AZ, sister Joan (Bill) Batten of Butner, NC and sister Judy (Jerry) Jacobsen of Grand Island; numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, January 25, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Callaway with Pastor Shanon Williams, officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Callaway. Timm-Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Callaway is assisting the family with arrangements.
