Bernard "Birney" Adilman enlisted in the Air Force in 1940 and was posted in England as a bomber pilot in 1941 as part of a Canadian Operational Training Unit. He flew many missions over Germany, France, and along the coast of Netherlands. On four separate occasions, he was forced to make crash landings. In Jun of 1942, he was the pilot of a squadron sent to destroy the Gnome-Rhone works outside Paris. They didn't drop a single bomb because cloud cover obscured the target and they wanted to avoid civilian casualties. On Jan 6, 1945, he was reported missing and presumed dead.
