Funeral services for Mrs. Sylvia Christine Crosby, age 80, of McLoud, OK will begin at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 28, 2017 in The Asa Smith Memorial Chapel at Asa Smith-Parks Funeral Service, 2039 North Tim Holt Drive in Harrah with Pastor Jerry Jones officiating.

Sylvia was born November 26, 1937 in Dexter, New Mexico the daughter of Joe Frank and Flora (Stephens) Scates. She passed away Friday morning, December 22, 2017 at her home in McLoud.

Sylvia was raised and attended school in Roswell, New Mexico. At the young age of 14 she chose to quit school to care for her ailing father. After her father's death, Sylvia resumed her education, completing her GED. Sylvia was united in marriage to Mr. Cleatus Crosby on March 23, 1955 in Roswell, New Mexico. Shortly after their marriage, Cleatus and Sylvia moved to Oklahoma.

Sylvia was a selfless person, always focusing on the needs of others. She loved to care for her family and make sure each one always had plenty to eat. She was strong in character, requiring the best out of everyone. Her work ethic was equally as strong, often picking cotton as a child. Her respect was not easily earned but when she granted it, it was rarely taken back. She was also a devoted woman, giving her life to raising children. At the time of her death, Sylvia was raising a granddaughter, Heavenly, whom she began caring for when she was just 6-weeks old.

Sylvia enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Frank and Flora Scates; her husband, Cleatus Crosby on July 27, 2013; one son, Keith Wayne Crosby; one son-in-law, Jack Hunsicker on April 19, 2009; one brother, Johnnie Scates; and one sister, Lavern Tyler.

Sylvia is survived by two sons; Tony Crosby and his wife, Paulette of McLoud, OK and Bryan Crosby and his wife, April of McLoud, OK; one daughter, Debbie Hunsicker of Noble, OK; five grandchildren; Jason Hunsicker and his wife, Rebekah of Norman, OK; Victor Hunsicker and his wife, Stacie of Choctaw, OK, Michael Crosby of McLoud, OK, Gabriel Crosby of McLoud, OK, Jessica Chandler and her husband, Les of Tecumseh, OK and Heavenly Crosby of McLoud, OK; six great-grandchildren, Zachariah, Noah, Elijah, Lilly, Audrey and Hannah; two brothers, Kenneth Scates and his wife, Detta of Roswell, New Mexico and Wayne Scates and his wife, Bea of Roswell, New Mexico; two sisters, Violet Russell of Rochester, New York and Hazel MacArthur and her husband, Ron of Sulphur, OK; and her favorite Datsun, Sammy Boy.

The Crosby family will receive friends at Asa Smith-Parks Funeral Service on Wednesday, December 27th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Burial will conclude in the McLoud Riverside Cemetery in McLoud, OK.

Arrangements for Sylvia and her family were placed in the care of Asa Smith-Parks Funeral Service of Harrah, OK.
