Joseph Carlton Lanier, 77, of Colonial Heights, passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, in his home. Joe was the son of the late Kenly M. and Elizabeth A. Wood Lanier, also of Colonial Heights. He served in the Marine Corps in the 1950s, and was retired from the Seaboard Coastline Railroad.

Joe is survived by his wife of fifty years, Marie F. Lanier; five children, Gerry K. Lanier and wife Doris of Louisa, Va., Pamela J. Lanier of Chesterfield, Va., J. Clinton Lanier and wife Cynthia of Chesterfield, N. Yvette Thompson of Chester, Va., Michael R. Lanier and wife Dawn of Penn.; three grandchildren, Kiersten S. Lanier of Penn., Blake A. and Matthew N. Thompson of Chester; two step-grandchildren, Bryan L. and Kacey L. Jones of Penn., and a brother, Bernard R. Lanier of Colonia Heights.

A graveside funeral service was held at 11 AM Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, with Rev. William Rawlings officiating, in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. Arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory.
