Visitation will be observed on Monday, May 8, 2017 from 9:00 am until the time of services, at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette.
Chaplain Paul Broussard of Nursing Specialties Hospice in Lafayette will officiate.
Marilyn was born May 3, 1939 in Baton Rouge and was a long-time resident of Acadiana. In her early years, she was a member of The Mother’s Club. During Mardi Gras, Marilyn would assist in the building of floats for the parades. She obtained her realtor’s license at an early age but never ventured into that career path. Marilyn was devoted in her Christian beliefs and in her Catholic faith.
Later in her life, Marilyn enjoyed spending her time oil painting. She was a proud cancer survivor, speaking at many Bluebird Cancer Retreats. Marilyn sewed all of her children’s clothing by hand and with love.
Marilyn is survived by one daughter, Sharon Schexnayder Feirman and her husband, Adam of Lafayette; one brother, James E. "Jimmy" Ray and his wife, Judy of Prairieville; four grandchildren, Carlie Rae Feirman, Ross Schexnayder and his wife, Karen, Sailor Schexnayder and Triton Carper; one great-grandchild, Rhett Schexnayder and numerous dear nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest A. Ray, Sr. and Aliwee Rester Ray; one son, James Rodney "Jim Rod" Schexnayder, Jr.; one daughter, Melody Ann Ponge; her brother, Ernest A. "Buddy" Ray, Jr. and her twin sister, Carolyn Ray, whom passed away the day before Marilyn.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Nursing Specialties Hospice and Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Maurice for the compassionate care given to Marilyn and her family.
