Wendy Jayne Richardson Thompson passed away peacefully on December 9, 2017 in Sherman, Texas. She was the daughter of General James Abner Richardson III and Barbara Fuller, born in Martinez, California on September 8, 1940.
As an army family they resided in Concord, CA; Alexandria, VA, Laguna Beach, CA; Fresno, CA; and Ambler, PA. She was very athletic and enjoyed horsemanship and archery.
Wendy met and married William (Bill) H. Thompson, on March 11, 1961 at Penn State University, and had three boys: Jay, Lee, and Wade. They moved to Lafayette, CA in 1965, after Wendy graduated with a Parks Management degree, and Bill had completed a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering and landed a job with Shell Oil. Transfers moved the family to St. Louis, 1968 and then Houston, 1973.
Wendy volunteered with the zoo and kept up with raising her family. She played tennis and bridge, practiced archery, and planned poker parties and vacations. She also dabbled in photography, painting, artwork, lithography, copper enameling, pottery and sculpture. She volunteered during elections and the Stratford High School Band boosters. Though not Catholic, she was active in St. John Vianney Church, attended mass, and sang in the Virtuoso choir.
Wendy suffered from an AVM on Memorial Day, 1995 and had mental and physical impairment through the rest of her life. She resided under the compassionate care of The Renaissance, in Sherman, Texas, near her sons, Jay and Wade.
Survivors are sister, Judy (John) Richardson; brother, Jim Richardson; sons, Jay Thompson (Ann), Lee Thompson (Gay), and Wade Thompson; and grandchildren Ellen, Steven, William, and Valerie.
Wendy will be remembered for her welcoming house always full of people, music, parties and laughter. She will be interned at Memorial Oaks Cemetery on Dec 21, 2017 next to her beloved husband, Bill. Donations to the Humane Society in her name would be most in line with her wishes.
