Obituary for James Boyd Ferris

Ferris, James Boyd “Fred” age 69 of Chester Street, Elmira, NY Passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 11th, 2017 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Fred was born January 25th, 1948 in Elmira; the son of the late Fred and Catherine (Woodruff) Ferris.

He is survived by his loving wife whom he adored Lynda Slawson-Ferris of Elmira; Children: Thomas “TJ” Ferris (Chrissy) of Elmira, Jeff Elston of Elmira, Along with their mother: Doris Raymond; Kyle Brown of Elmira, Lynsie Brown of Elmira; God son: Adam Elston of Elmira; Grandchildren: Kayleb, Willie, IzaBelluh, Zander, and Myla.; One living brother: Dennis Ferris (Janet Lewis) of Webster, Florida; mother-in-law, Joan Slawson. Along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his Son: Ryan Brown, Sisters: Elaine Canfield, Nancy Blemle, Tina White; father-in-law, Richard Slawson.

In service to his country Fred served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his time of service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Bronze Star. He retired from NYSEG as Chief Lineman in 2005. Fred was best known for his dedication to family and friends. He surrounded himself with the most loving, and thoughtful personalities. He loved and appreciated automobiles, building them from scratch or finding the perfect factory performance special. He was member of the Big Flats American Legion.

Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Jim’s life at the Elmira Elks Lodge, 300 East Gray Street, Elmira, NY Saturday, December 16th, 2017 at 4:00PM till… Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 18th, 2017 at 11 AM with full military honors in the Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, NY. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations in James Boyd Ferris’s name to the Vietnam Veterans Museum, 1200 Davis Street, Elmira, NY 14901.
