Professional Football Player. He played the wide receiver position for the American Football League's Houston Oilers from 1960 to 1966. He originally attended Louisiana State University, but transferred to Northwestern State University where he played on their football team. He joined the Houston Oilers of the newly formed American Football League in 1960 and played for them for seven seasons before retiring after the 1966 season. During his tenure with the Oilers, he was a five time AFL All-Star, four time First Team All-AFL, and the league's receiving yards leader in 1964. He had the most receiving yards in a calendar month with 822 in October 1961. He also was a key part of the Oilers' two AFL Championship teams in 1960 and 1961. When he retired, his career statistics included 410 receptions for 6,823 yards and 51 touchdowns. After leaving football, he received his doctorate in education from the University of Houston in 1967. He later operated an educational tutoring service in Shreveport, Louisiana and also worked with prisoners who were studying for their GED (General Equivalency Diploma).
