Word was received in Effingham Wednesday evening of the death of Douglas Eugene, the six year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hawk north of town. The little fellow passed away Wednesday evening about eight o'clock following an illness of several months. Early in January he suffered and attack of rheumatism. Following his recovery in March he contracted the flu and leakage of the heart developed. For weeks his life had been hanging in the balance. Everything that could be done to relieve his suffering was done by the devoted parents, relatives and friends, but of no avail. For a time a trained nurse was in charge of the case. Douglas, who was always obedient and cheerful, was born on the old home place northwest of Effingham July 27, 1913, Besides his parents, one sister, Mildred; and three brothers, Leroy, Gilbert and Milton, are left to mourn his departure. The funeral services will be held in the Presbyterian church today, Friday, at 2:30 o'clock. Interment in the Evergreen cemetery.
