James William McCorkle, 85, of Hickory, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017 at his residence, following a period of declining health.

James was born on April 26, 1932 in Mooresville, NC to the late John Craven McCorkle and Addie Connors Fleming.

He was a retired U.S. Army veteran; the founder, bishop and chaplain of Faith Temple Church in Glen Alpine and was also retired from Frye Regional Hospital where he worked in maintenance.

James was currently attending Grace Chapel House of Prayer for All People in Hickory, NC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Willie Chester Bost, Odell Bost, Leroy McCorkle and Kenneth McCorkle, two sisters, Alice and Priscilla McCorkle and his stepmother, Estea Bost McCorkle.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Chaplain A.M. Barber officiating.

Interment will follow at Park Memorial Garden in Glen Alpine with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Army.

The family will receive friends on Friday, from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.

Memorials may be sent to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place. Memphis, TN 38105.
